Ella made her first sign tonight!
I've shown her maybe 7-10 signs so far. Up to this point, she hadn't signed any back, but after dinner tonight, Cosmo came over to where we were sitting on the sofa, and she made the sign for "dog"!
Pretty neat :)
Of course, as I try and get her to do it on demand now, she just stares at me...heh.

A big girl week.
I'd been putting off giving Ella a bath in the big bathtub for awhile, because of the stupid shower doors we have. They basically make it impossible to get to her while she's in there, and you can't sit on the edge of the tub because of the track that they doors run on.
Earlier, this week, though, I figured I'd give it a whirl. It was only a semi-disaster. I wound up having to get in the tub with her to bathe her, which wasn't ideal. Ella did fine, though...she wasn't fond of the running water, though. I think it was a little loud for her.
I think that I'm going to stick with the baby bathtub for a little while longer, though...it's just too unwieldy with those stupid shower doors.
We also moved her into her own room this past Thursday! She'd been sleeping in the Pack-n-Play next to our bed since we brought her home from the hospital, and I'd been somewhat hesitant to move her. But we put her in her own crib in her own room, and she did great!
She's so close to crawling...she does the whole rocking on her knees thing, but doesn't quite have the forward momentum yet. She'll get mad enough at herself here in a few days and she'll just take off :)

Paperback Swap
So I've just caught up with most of the rest of the Internet-connected people in this country, and joined PaperBack Swap. If you've been living in a hole, like me, basically, it is what it says. You list books that you have that you want to trade -- when you send these out, you get credits. You can then use your credits to get more books for yourself, and so and and so forth. All you have to pay for is shipping, and that amount of money goes towards your credits as well.
It seems like a pretty neat system...I expect I'll be using it quite a bit to get books for Ella (and for me, even though I don't have much time to read these days).
Jon joined their sister site, Swap a DVD. Same concept, just with DVDs, obviously. He's already sent out about 10 DVDs...I've had one book go out so far, and have requested one back.
I'll be interested to see how this works.
Anyway, if you want to join, click on the icon over to the right...then I can get credits for you joining and listing books of your own :)

Tax time
Silly me, owning a business and trying to do my own taxes. I presumed they were due at the same time as my personal taxes...April 15. Oh, no. I got a happy little email this past week telling me that they're due, oh, around tomorrow.
!!
And of course, TurboTax (my hero) doesn't make a version of the software I needed for the Mac. I actually ordered the software awhile ago, but had yet to head over to Mom and Dad's to use their PC.
Needless to say, my afternoon today was spent over there hacking away, trying to make sure all my Ts were crossed and my Is were dotted. But it got done, and is going in the mail tomorrow. Now I just have to get our personal taxes done...blech.
I think next year we're going to get an accountant. I can't mess with this stuff anymore. I have enough to worry about.

8 months!
Ella actually turned 8 months yesterday, but I was lazy and didn't get my pictures uploaded until today.
You can sort of see her post-bath curls in this one...don't ask me where she gets those from.

Jon and I say all the time we wished she smiled more...we can just never get a smile out of her :)

E.T.?

She's getting closer and closer everyday to crawling, but she has no problems getting where she wants to go now. She babbles all the time, and much to Jon's delight, has recently taken to saying "Dada". She has been feeding herself from the bottle for awhile now, and will even hold it one-handed sometimes (show-off, hehe). She's so good when we go out with her too...knock on wood, that trend continues.
Still no teeth yet, though.

49.
That's how cold it got in our house while the power was off.
We got 3 days of rain, and then came the sleet. The snow started yesterday evening. Our power went off around 5:00 pm yesterday, and didn't come back on until sometime this afternoon.
It got cold fast. We had 3 layers on the little girl, and she slept in the bed with us last night.
When we woke up this morning, it was 49. We did have hot water, though, and I took what was probably the best shower of my life.
We got over to mom and dad's house, since they didn't lose power, and spent the day there. When we got back home tonight, the power was on. Every light in the house was ablaze, and it was nice and toasty.
When I said I wanted snow, it was with the idea in mind that we wouldn't lose power. Sheesh.
Snow pictures coming later!
